I'll Fly Away: In Memoriam Violet Mae Sommerville Hamilton 1911-2011

Being of sound mind until her last days and just five days shy of her 100Th Birthday, Violet Mae Sommerville Hamilton flew to her forever home to rest in the presence of her Heavenly Father.

My Grand Mother Violet was a woman of grace with a deep abiding love for  Christ.  I believe her strong will and determination were the strengths that kept her so long in this life.

Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Dodson Hamilton and youngest son Ronald.  She is survived by her sister Marjorie , her children, Anne Stone, Dennis, Derwin, and William Hamilton, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

I remember grandma Violet as my "go go" grandma.  Always dressed in her finest on Sunday mornings and wearing her knee high white, Nancy Sinatra go go boots. Her long finger nails were always freshly filed, her lips painted bright pink or red; grandma was a real looker!

The Hamilton family share a similar characteristic...we're a little bit quirky and Violet was no exception.  She insisted on being kissed on the cheek rather than the lips and she never showed any compunction about sharing her true feelings.

Violet loved reading, writing poetry and taught bible studies in her local Baptist church and she traveled to the Holy land after the untimely death of her husband, William.

Leaving a life time of memories, I dedicate this tribute to her life and the lives she brought into this world.  Without them, my life would not have been possible and I would not have known the love and compassion of my beautiful family.
