Tis the season to be baking cookies....tell your friends to stop by and link up too!
This year I'm on a quest to find the perfect sugar cookie. I found my first experimental recipe of the season in one of my collector cook books; Betty Crocker's Cooky Book, 1963 Edition.
The flavor of the cookie was right on the button with a crunchy cookie texture. The dough was easy to handle but the finished product was a bit rough which made decorating a bit sketchy. I enjoyed this recipe but would like to find a more tender dough.
Ethel's Sugar Cookies
3/4 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Method:
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and flavoring thoroughly. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, blend together. Chill at least 1 hour.
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut shapes with cookie cutter or press 1 tablespoon dough with tines of fork, sprinkle with sugar. Bake 6-8 minutes or until cookies are delicate golden color
makes about 4 dozen
This is a very bad thing for me to have access too! I definitely don't need any more cookies in my home this season, but Man, I sure do love this page! haha.

ReplyDeleteBiren, I made your savory bacon biscuits and they were delicious!! I didn't have bacon so I used sausage. YUM! Your recipe reminds me of my mother-in-laws recipe for spicy cheese crackers. Her recipes requires rice cereal for some added crunch and a little more cayenne pepper to create a crisp and spicy treat!! Thanks again for sharing your recipe this month!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you liked the savory cookies. In the past, I have also made just cheese ones but since I had some bacon in the fridge, I decided to add them. My boys loved the cookies and made short work of it.
